The dynamics of Social Media have affected how we communicate and our expectations of one another. It has been a tool during revolution and wars.
Imagine if Facebook were around while Columbus was sailing the seas, Aristotle was teaching, or Martin Luther King was advocating for social
change.
We will look at how these systems exist today and how to build the solutions that will enable what we once called Science Fiction. The NSA has gathered a Yottabyte of data on the citizens of the planet, legally.
Mobile and Video have also changed the dynamic. You can’t move in the public areas of London without appearing on a camera. Police wear cameras as they patrol and of course most citizens have cameras which has changed the dynamics of crime and apprehension.
The largest driver of the explosion of data will be the Internet of Things (IoT). M2M and RFID have been around for years but the software controlling the interaction of sensors embedded in everything from Refrigerators to Jets to Cattle is in its emerging stage. We’ll explore what these developments are and what they will be.
Our usage of Facebook and other Social Media, our responses to Advertising, our searches on Google and our very usage of the “Smartphone”. Frankly, while there can be many arguments for its value, it scares us. Location Awareness and GPS will make it possible to track everything. What do we do with this Data? What do we permit? How will it work? Its power and possibilities are truly unknown and its effects on human behavior and society will be profound.
We Focus on the Key Technological Drivers of Change in the Smart City.
